National Day 2016
A festive reception was organised on Tuesday, 22nd November 2016 in the Hyatt Hotel in Belgrade on the occasion of the 73rd National Day of Lebanon.
As stated by the Ambassador of Lebanon H.E. Dr. Toufic Jaber, Lebanon is celebrating in a positive atmosphere after the election of the new President of the state and new Prime Minister a fortnight ago, as these events have given new hope and announced the beginning of a new era in the rich history of this country.
In that spirit, the 73rd Anniversary of Independence was marked by an event which everyone can understand even if languages differ, as it is “an event that the eyes can see, the heart can feel and the mind can understand. Allow me to share with you a fashion show for a Lebanese designer, Mr. Anoine Kareh who is walking the path of international status.”
The reception was attended by numerous invitees, representatives of the diplomatic corps, renowned persons from the political, cultural and public life of Serbia.
Speech of the Ambassador of Lebanon in Belgrade H.E. Dr. Toufic Jaber:
Honourable Speaker of the House of Parliament
Dear Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Lebanon commemorates its national day this year in a positive atmosphere after the election of a new president and a new prime minster a fortnight ago. These developments renewed the hope and ushered the beginning of a new era in the rich history of my homeland.
Throughout its history, Lebanon passed through challenges and faced unknown hardships. Yet, Lebanon remained resolute to face these hardships and continued to be the beacon of freedom despite the instability surrounding it. Thus, the Lebanese people mastered the art of survival, conquered the difficulties they encountered in their lives, and emerged stronger than ever before as their ancestors did before them.
Lebanon embraces seventeen religious and cultural backgrounds. This cultural diversity brought to Lebanon good and bad fortunes, happiness and suffering but, nonetheless, the Lebanese people maintained their national unity through dialogue and embraced the love for life.
So once again Lebanon leads by example of being not only a safe haven for multicultural coexistence and religious diversity but, also as a model of consensual democracy.
This message is hoped to herald the rebirth of Lebanon such that the phoenix bird can fly again in its skies, the Phoenician ships can sail again in all the seas holding the murex shell and spreading his sons in the world, viz; the inventors of alphabets, the leaders and the creators of culture and fashion.
Thus, we have chosen to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of independence with an event that can be understood by us all even if we do not speak the same language. It is an event that the eyes can see, the heart can feel and the mind can understand. Allow me to share with you a fashion show for a Lebanese designer, Mr. Anoine Kareh who is walking the path of international status.
Thank you my dear friends, colleagues, honourable Guests.
Before the show begins, we have the cake cutting ceremony.
